This year the annual PWNE Conference focused on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Over 200 Participation Workers attended the all day conference at the Barbican Centre in London.

PWNE and School Councils UK Event
The PWNE and School Counciils UK held an event about Children and Young People’s Participation in School and Education Settings on the 21st November in Birmingham. The event offered 2 practical workshops looking at specific methods for developing participation in schools and allowed delegates to hear from speakers with expertise in this area from the English Secondary Schools Association, Creative Partnerships and the National Youth Agency, as well as School Councils UK and the PWNE. Annual North West Participation Workers Conference
The second annual conference of the Participation Workers Network North West will take place at the JJB Stadium in Wigan on the 14th June. Lancashire County Council and Wirral Borough Council, both Beacon Authorities for Positive Youth Engagement will be involved in the conference. This event is aimed at anyone with an interest in Children and Young People’s Participation, in particular Participation Workers. The purpose of the conference is to promote good practice in engaging children and young people across a wide age range, in different settings and through different approaches, through a choice of participative workshops facilitated by experienced practitioners. East Of England Regional Event Success
On 23rd February 2006 over 100 Participation Workers from across the Eastern region met together for a conference dedicated to exchanging best practice in children and young people’s participation. This conference was organised by the Participation Workers Network for England and launched the East of England regional network.
The day began with a showing of the recently produced PWNE DVD ‘they help you get respect’, featuring children and young people’s views from around the country about getting their voices heard and being involved in decision-making. Chris Hilliard, Director for Children and Learners for the East of England, inspired delegates with a keynote address detailing his vision for the children and young people of the region.

North West Ready Steady Change Roadshow
On Friday 28th October the North West Participation Workers Network hosted a Ready Steady Change Regional Roadshow for over 130 adults and Children and Young People from all over the North West.
The Ready Steady Change training pack is available from the Children’s Rights Alliance for England website and has been welcomed by Participation Workers all over the country as a very useful resource.

PWNE Conference Success
The first annual Participation Workers Network for England Conference took place on Tuesday 11th October at Regent's College Conference Centre in London. 250 delegates attended from all over England.

Championing Children – Participation Matters
Championing Children, in partnership with the University of Liverpool, the Children’s Society, Government Office North West and Liverpool Children’s Fund are hosting a conference to highlight the necessity of children’s participation in the planning and delivery of services to children and families.
July 2005 - PWNE Event launches North West Network
On Thursday 14th July, over 132 Participation Workers from the North West of England met to take part in the launch of the North West Participation Workers Network at the JJB Stadium in Wigan.
Delegates were from a wide range of organisations – local and national charities, Government Office North West, the United Kingdom Youth Parliament, local health services and Manchester Children’s Hospital and many others. All local authority youth services in the North West were represented
Chris Ashley, chair of the UKYP Procedures group opened the day and introduced the first speaker Cllr Simon Blackburn from Blackpool, who is the youngest Councillor ever elected. Cllr Blackburn spoke passionately about the importance of engaging with young people and was questioned about what he was doing to make councils more young people friendly.
London Participation Event welcomes 150 delegates to the GLA
On Monday 13th June, over 150 delegates met at City Hall in London to share ideas and methods around children and young people’s participation and network with each other. This event was supported by the GLA, Government Office for London and co-organised by a multi-agency steering group and the PWNE.
