With young people we wrote a Youth Questionnaire as part of the Parish Plan for a village near St Albans.
A student from Leeds University collated the data. We now have 4 actions in the Youth Section:
1. Provide pedestrian crossings and safe walkways on Colney Heath Lane and Smallford Lane.
2. Take measures to make young people feel safer in local parks, on the Alban Way and Roestock underpass.
3. Provide more youth facilities; internet cafe and bike track.
4. Provide information about setting up Youth Councils around the parish (x5?) and assist those who showed an interest in starting a youth council.

Current development/strategies
A new youth club has been started. We are seeking to move forward the above actions and start 1 – 5 new Youth Councils so that local young people can have a voice on the Parish Council and have a budget.
In what ways are young people involved?
They have helped write and pilot the Colney Heath Youth Questionnaire. They have been involved in the data entry task. A Geography student offered, negotiated and completed the data entry and data analysis of the Youth Section.
Within the drop-in consultation stage, several teenagers gave their comments, which have helped to shape the questionnaire.
What have been the outcomes of involving young people?
The views of young people were sought seperate from their parents. Four specific action points have been identified. Specific concerns of young people, for example safety issues around the 5 hamlets, have been identified.
End date of the project:
Potentially, December 2005
